I have two main things I want to knit for my baby. A mobile and some toys. The mobile is going to be knit birds. I'll be using Bluebird of Happiness by Sara Elizabeth Kellner. It's a free pattern on Ravelry and I'd like to add quilting fabric for wings. I purchased Cascade 220 Superwash Sport in red, teal, green and gold at a recent knitting retreat in Langley, BC with Tin Can Knits and Knit Social at 88 Stitches. The colours go so well together I hope to use the leftovers for a sweater or possibly a Rebecca Danger monster for baby (but I don't want to get ahead of myself). Here's my inspiration;
I have have three things that I want to knit for baby. The first is the Pop Blanket that Karla mentioned above. I'm going to do a cream back ground, but I'm going to do the dots in Hudson's Bay Company colours. I think this will go well the the general Canadian wildlife theme we have picked for the nursery. I have already purchased the yarn on our trip to 88 Stitches. I went with Karla's pick of the Cascade 220 superwash, and in case you don't know, the HBC colours are gold, red, navy and green. I think it's going to be just splendid!
As for sweaters, I have two picked out. We are waiting for the delivery to find out if we are having a little boy, or a little girl, so I am determined to make not one, but two sweaters. They're baby sweaters, they'll knit up fast, right?
The first one I have picked out is Maile Sweater. It's a free pattern on Ravelry. I have this precious pink Malabrigo yarn in a colour way called 'light of love' already purchased. I can't wait to see it all knit up.
The second is the Henry's Sweater. A sweet little double breasted cardigan. I am in love with it. I bought some extra Cascade 220 in a forest green to whip this bad boy up.
We can't wait to show you all of our FO's from yarn and otherwise. Stay tuned for our baby knitting progress in the months to come. Better yet, if you're local, join us for Knit Night!
