Spring Break!

Whoa, I know it always happens like this, but where did spring break go? It was supposed to be two full weeks of uninterrupted knitting bliss, but what happened to it? It seems I barely knit a row on my Echo Flower shawl, and I hardly cast on my second sock for our new design. So where did the time go?

Well, I did get something super important done; I found my wedding dress!! Which means that, as soon as I finish some of my other projects, I can cast on a shawl. I think I still have one more option to share with you then I'll make my final selection.

I also hit a mile (Kilometer?) stone with my running and did my first practice 10K distance! I'm super proud of my self and I'm really pumped for my first 10K, The Vancouver Sun Run. Once that is complete I will start my training for the Wine Country Half Marathon!! I am still stunned that I am willing to run when nobody is chasing me!

To round out my spring break, Karla and I went down to Fibres West and it was... AWESOME!!! We met some really great people and took some really great classes. I took a class with Kim McKenna called "Silk Hankies - Your Blank Canvas" and although it was nothing like what I was expecting it was a phenomenal experience. We hand painted silk hankies, which, contrary to my initial impressions, are silk worm cocoons that are streatched into a square. Once the hankies are dyed they not only look fabulous but they can be spun into yarn, or you can skip the spinning step and just knit them. They turned out beautifly and I can't wait to use them.

While I was at Fibres West I also picked up a drop spindle and I'm hooked! All I can think about is how to get my hands on a spinning wheel. Unfortunately, there is no room in the budget right now for a new spinning wheel so I did some Googleing and I found a plan for a Dodec Spinning Wheel. I was so excited that I immediately emailed my Dad and asked him if he thought the plans were doable. He's on board so it looks like the Easter weekend will bring me a Father/Daughter Crafternoon!

Even though spring break seems to have flown by, there was fun had by all. I can't wait for the next few months of learning to spin, designing socks, knitting shawls, and of course wedding planning!

Happy knitting- and spinning too!
